In 1969, Kagle taught on World Campus Afloat, journeying with
students to over 19 countries and many ports of call. In each
of these stops, Kagle made it a special point to visit the leading
artists of that country. In the years since, he has kept in touch
with these major artists, collecting and trading works with them.
Also, after visiting exhibitions in the US, Japan, China, Africa
and Europe, when he finds an exciting new artist, he begins a
letter visit and again buys or trades for works of art. This contemporary
collection was built primarily through visiting artists' studios,
getting to know the artists or through exhibit viewing and creating
a letter communication.

This important work from a contemporary Japanese master was featured
in the September, 1979 article in ArtNews on masters of modern
Japanese printmaking. It was purchased from a Kyoto gallery in
1972. It combines a love of the traditional Japanese images from
Edo prints with modern color and concepts.

Landscape
This master work by Arakawa is a classic of the latter half of
the 20th century. It is a colored silkscreen print completed on
a mylared paper, symbolic of the constructed landscape of our
technological society. The reflective surface, measured off in
grids, brings in the present reality of the world to mix with
the structural world created by Arakawa.
