Indian Temple Carving

This storyboard represents four Mudras (different poses) of Ganesha.
The meaning of the allegory is: Ganesha, who is protector of households,
represents the wisdom which brings to mankind a great store of
this worldâs goods: the sagacity of an elephant which keeps
the mind tied to the earth, not the spiritual power of Siva, which
can take wings and lift soul to heaven: wherefore he is patron
deity of scribes. Ganesha is a jovial, well-disposed deity, and
always immensely popular. As the intuitive intellectual power
must always be joined with reason, so by permission of the Gods,
Ganeshaâs name is always invoked first in sacrifices.
